October 2007. Red Cross on site and Alan Turing blood bank
The Alan Turing Blood Bank is a blood bank with the Red Cross; it is named after Alan Turing, who is broadly recognized as the father of computer science. Through blood donation events, as well as individual blood donations, blood units are accumulated in the bank, to be provided to the members of the Alan Turing Blood Bank upon request.
Although the Alan Turing University of Indianapolis Blood Bank is an initiative of the Department of Computer Science, the list of members that may be supported by the blood bank at a time of need is extended to include all members of the boader University family, i.e. all students, faculty, staff as well as their immediate relatives.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 3 2007 a Red Cross mobile unit visited the premises of the University; this was the startup event for a blood bank and, according to feedback from the Red Cross, it was particularly succesful. Similar events will be planned twice a year in order to sustain and expand the Alan Turing blood bank.

Jan 2007. Test out for COMP
150 during add-drop week
All students following a major of the College
of Arts and Sciences are required to take at least one computer course
to satisfy the requirement for Computer Literacy. For students who are
not majoring in computer related topics and do not have a strong
computing background this course is usually COMP-150 Microcomputer
Applications. This course is also a requirement for the core education
of the School of Business.
As students who already have a strong background
in computing will not trully benefit from such a course the University
of Indianapolis and the Department of Computer Science are offering
students the option to demonstrate trough a practical test the skills
they already posses and be excempt from the computer literacy course
requirement. For the spring semester the test out will be offered
during the add-drop week. Students who wish to participate need to have
registered for it before the beginning of the add-drop week.
The test out option is available to all students.
Related policies include:
- All UIA students have the option to take the
exam.
- The test out option is available as a 1 credit
course (COMP150X).
- The grading for the test out course is
Pass/Fail. This grade does is not considered in calculating students'
GPA.
- The course may not be repeated. Students who
take the course and fail it are required to follow the normal path with
regard to computer literacy.
- The test out examination takes place during the
add drop week. Registered students are required to show up on time and
may not be admited if they are late.
- The examination comprises different components.
A pass grade may only be awarded to students who succeed in all
components of the examination.
